Make a Lemonade Stand

Make and Sell Delicious, Fresh Lemonade!

What better way to spend a hot summer day with your child than the age-old activity of setting up a lemonade stand? Generations of Americans first experienced the monetary rewards of a day’s work while learning about fractions (measuring the ingredients), courtesy & community (serving friends & neighbors), math (counting money), and art (creating an eye-catching stand). The best part? A lemonade stand is a fun, easy, and exciting activity that engages you and your child for hours!

Before getting started, we encourage kids to ask a parent or guardian to help. Kids and adults alike should check out our Tips to Stay Safe for ideas on security and neighborhood safety.

READY KIDS? LET’S GO!
It’s easy to make a lemonade stand! Here’s what you’ll need:

For Your Stand:
• Table
• Paper or plastic
   tablecloth
• Napkins
• Banner and tape
• Box to hold
  money
• Balloons, streamers, signs, and/or
  stickers (optional)
For Your Lemonade:
• Cold water
• Ice
• C&H Sugar
• Lemons
• Spoon
• Paper cups
• Pitcher
• Fruit and/or food coloring (optional)

Set up a card table or other small table. Cover it with a tablecloth. (Hint: a paper or plastic tablecloth is easiest to clean up). Download a Lemonade Stand Banner and print it out from your computer. If you don’t have a color printer, use magic markers or crayons to color the banner. Or, make a banner of your own! Attach it to your table with tape. (Hint: cardboard backing will make your banner sturdier.) Decorate your stand with signs, balloons, streamers, stickers or other decorations. Be creative and use anything you want to attract attention to your stand. (Hint: use bright colors.) Tell your friends to come! Make signs to “advertise” your stand and post them in your neighborhood, so your friends and neighbors will come visit your stand.

Make delicious, 100% natural lemonade recipes. Lemonade is so easy to make! You just need water, C&H Sugar, ice and lemons! You can experiment with flavors and use food coloring to make blue or red lemonade. Add juices, such as lime juice or orange juice. Cut up fruit to add flavor or decorate the glass. Use crazy straws and fun paper cups or glasses. Here are more great tips for making lemonade.

We suggest you ask people 25 cents per cup. You can ask for more or less money, or even treat everyone for free! Remember to be courteous to everyone who visits your stand, even if they don’t buy any lemonade.

Make more money by selling cookies or other baked goods or candy with your lemonade. Try our easy, kid-friendly cookie recipes, like Chocolate Chips, Snowballs or Funny Faces — no spoon mixing required.

When you take down your stand at the end of the day, be sure to clean up all the used cups, napkins, and other garbage in the area surrounding your stand. Then, start planning your next Family Fun activity!
